Oman is a steady, well-funded market for contract furniture, with hospitality and tourism development in Muscat, Salalah and along the coast. For importers, the practical questions are duty, documents and lead time — this guide covers all three.
What Buyers Ask First: Duty, VAT and Documents
Furniture imported into Oman and the wider GCC typically attracts customs duty of around 5 percent on the common external tariff, plus VAT at 5 percent. Wooden products may also require fumigation or phytosanitary certification, and buyers should confirm the exact tariff line with their customs broker before ordering.
CV. Nusantara Sourcing Agent manufactures and exports handcrafted teak root furniture from Jepara, Central Java, Indonesia. We work with importers, wholesalers, furniture retailers, interior designers and hospitality projects. Minimum order is one 20-foot container, mixed items and pieces are welcome, and prices are quoted FOB Semarang. Capacity is four 40-foot containers per month, and we have shipped over 300 containers since 2016.
Why Oman Is Worth a Closer Look
Oman has invested steadily in tourism, hospitality and infrastructure, with new hotels and resorts in Muscat, Salalah and along the coast. Unlike some regional markets, demand is less dependent on a single sector, which makes it a steadier market for contract furniture.
Teak root furniture suits Omani interiors well: warm natural tones, sculptural pieces and materials that handle heat and dry air without warping or cracking when finished correctly.

Import Duty, VAT and Documents
Furniture entering Oman and the wider GCC typically attracts customs duty of around 5 percent on the common external tariff, plus VAT at 5 percent. Wooden products may require fumigation or phytosanitary certification. We prepare the commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading and certificate of origin, and can arrange fumigation documents when required. Always confirm the exact tariff line with your customs broker.
Shipping to Oman
Orders ship by sea in containers from Semarang, Indonesia, arriving at Sohar and Salalah. We load mixed containers combining several product types, so buyers can build a first order without committing to a single category.

Packing, loading and shipping

Where does the container actually leave from? Everything is loaded in Jepara, on the north coast of Central Java, roughly two hours by road from the port of Semarang. Cartons are staged, checked against the packing list, then driven to the quay and lifted onto the vessel. Semarang is the port we quote from, which is why FOB Semarang is the term most buyers work on.
